The Longbeach Challenge Mountainbike event at Longbeach Estate is on this weekend. Team Big Al's are the holders of both corporate trophies in the 23km and 36km events. The teams are a bit fragile this year. Mr Glen Currie is not at peak performance carrying a few extra kilos. Rob Nisbett is in the same condition after spending 12 months down at McMurdo base. Sean Kennedy has blown his knee and is a non starter so good luck team. In the 23 km ride Last years star Ricky Brown has defected to a boys riding weekend down at Alexandra- no more free stuff for him! The team will be led out with Dan an an assorted motley crew ready to do battle with team BNZ the enemy. See you there.

November 13th coming up and the Tinwald Cycling Club is running the Peach Cup in Methven.
Bike Methven had a spring clean around the Bike Park tracks this morning. A team of the usual suspects turned up. A shame a few other riders were too busy. Now is the time of the year to do a bit of pre summer maintenance. One of the best savings you can make is to have your chain measured for wear.
If your chain is too worn it will start to wear out your rear cassette.Changing your chain before this happens costs a few dollars but can save the price of a new rear cassette $100.00 +. If you don't have the correct tool drop past the shop it takes a couple of minutes and it is FREE!
Mt Hutts season has ended and after one of the leanest snow seasons in many years it has snowed several times and heavily over the past 3 weeks. Murphy's law! Now the season has ended it is time to get out the bikes. Mt Hutt Bike Park is riding well and now is the time to check out your bike. Bring your bike into the shop for a check. Give your gears a tune check and/or bleed your hydraulic brakes. Give your ride a bit of love before you ride. Plenty of spares for whatever you need. Brake shoes, cables, nutrition for the body and oil for your chain. Check out the summer Mon's Royale bike range, POC helmets, protection and riding gear.
School holidays have been going off with a bang especially on Saturday. Perfect weather and great snow conditions drew a capacity crowd to the mountain.
Winter 2016 started to look like a boomer but unfortunately a warm spell took the early snow. Mt Hutt opened with some trying conditions but with a little snow and some snowmaking things are looking up for the holidays. Goodawindi sent its young rugby team over to Methven in an annual exchange and dished the Methven under 12's. They then had a great sunny day skiing Mt Hutt. Something to remember for this group of kids.
The BIG news from Mt Hutt this year is the season pass falling to an unbelievable $299. You must buy before 31st March to get this price and secure the cheapest skiing on NZ's finest mountain.
The biking season is on the go around Methven Mt Hutt Village. Some trails in the Mt Hutt Bike Park have been revamped since logging of the forest. A new Treeverse has been created which is an easier but longer uphill trail. This can be linked with the recut Bang4Buck which is a great bermed downhill trail for intermediate riders. Starting from the carpark and Swamp Donkey this makes a great loop ride. For roadies there is a group ride starting from Big Al's carpark 6.30 Wednesday nights. This is for all riders so if you are new to group riding or want some company on a red give it a go.
The Mt Hutt Bike Park has been undergoing changes since the logging of the trees. Some new trails are being cut and others reinstated. There is some great riding for downhill and x-c riders. Some new trail maps and signs are underway so this summer will be better than ever in the park.
