Friday, October 30, 2015

The Mt Hutt Bike Park has been undergoing changes since the logging of the trees. Some new trails are being cut and others reinstated. There is some great riding for downhill and x-c riders. Some new trail maps and signs are underway so this summer will be better than ever in the park.

September was a great snow month with some fantastic days on the mountain. Unfortunately many weekends were snowy but Mondays were unbelievable.b The Peak to Pub was run on the Sunday with great weather on the mountain and at the finish at the Blue Pub. Team Big Al's had a good day with Glen Currie winning the open and team Big Al's having the record total combined age! Jenny is doing her bit here.

Winter coming on at Mt Hutt

Saturday, May 30, 2015

A cold storm hit the southern ski areas and Mt Hutt received some snow although a little less than down south. The snowmaking system on Mt Hutt kicked in and ran non stop for over 100 hours coating all the main trails with heaps of snow. Another storm is brewing and looking good to give Mt Hutt a bit of new snow and an opening on the 12th June.

The weather is typical wild Autumn weather at the moment. Wild winds a bit of snow here and there. In the shop the bikes are being put away and the new season winter gears are coming out. A new tech in the workshop this year and some new faces  in the shop. Some great new features on Mt Hutt and the new lift at Porters. Winter is on the way. Bring it on.

Coast to Coast Multisport

Friday, March 06, 2015

The famous Coast to Coast race is over for another year. Braden Currie from Methven and former Big Al's ski tech took the prize for the 2nd year in succession. Bradens crew included several Methven identities who always liven up events. Rob Nisbett from Methven competed in the 2day event and ran in a creditable 5th place after a few inglorious moments. Losing his bike off the roof on the way to the event was always going to be a problem. Then creating a large hole in his kayak when pulling too hard on his fluid container proving too much for his bilge pump. This enabled Rob to prove he could paddle his kayak with twice its normal weight! He now has arms like Popeye. Summer is moving on and the Mt Hutt crew are busy creating some new trails on the mountain. These trails will create some new terrain off the Virgin Mile and Lower Towers. Much more work is being done over at Porters Ski Area. Porters is only an extra 30 mins drive from Methven than Mt Hutt. Porters is putting in a new Chairlift for intermediates and creating a new beginners area for their Magic Carpet. This means there will now be two ski areas with chairlifts within easy access from Methven Mt Hutt Village.
