Mt Hutt 10th October

Thursday, October 10, 2013

Mt Hutt today 10th of October had 50 cms of new snow on a 2 metre + base. The snow was fantastic early real winter light and dry. The wind increased as forecast and closed the access road for a while with several snow slides of wind blow snow causing a little excitement. A good crowd turned out for one of the last days of the season with the mountain closing on Sunday.

ANC Races

Thursday, September 19, 2013

The Australia NZ Cup has started in great ski racing conditions. The first Continental Cup Downhill race in N.Z in 15 years was a great success. Nick Prebble was the best of the Kiwi racers. In another development a Superpipe is being constructed and will be used by several international teams training for the Olympic games in Sochi. They will be training in the pipe and park. These athletes will be training past the official closing date of Mt Hutt accessing the terrain on skidoos. Should be fun seeing these guys around Methven and on the mountain.

Spring at Mt Hutt

Friday, August 30, 2013

Recently a big event was on Mt Hutt. A round of the IPC World Cup. The last time a World Cup was held in N.Z. was in 1990 on Mt Hutt. This week Adam Hall scored a bronze Medal in the G.S and Corey Peters won gold in the combined G.S Slalom the a bronze next day in the G.S. Athletes from 10 countries competed. All were positioning themselves for a shot at the upcoming Olympics in Sochi Russia. The course was hard and fast with Mt Hutt receiving little snow for some time. As soon as the events were finished 25 cms from a southerly storm arrived then  the next day 30th August another 5cm's so the mountain is again in tip top condition.

Mt Hutt August 2013

Wednesday, August 14, 2013

July has gone by and not much new snow. With a 2.5 metre base there have been some great days on the hill. Fine weather has been the order of the day. Some new snow may arrive this weekend and at the moment there are some international teams training in the mornings preparing for the upcoming Winter Games. Some great athletes strutting their stuff. The Parks have been in immaculate condition and the Halfpipe is as good as it gets.

Holidays Mt Hutt

Tuesday, July 23, 2013

After some windy weather through the Queensland school holidays the weather improved with the mountain so busy on Saturday capacity was reached and the mountain was closed. The weather now looks great until the end of the NZ holidays. Mt Hutt should have some Hagland snow vehicles running very soon to ferry riders up from the bottom of the avalanched Triple chair.

Mt Hutt snow 2013

Monday, July 15, 2013

It seems everyones prayers for snow over the last few years has been successful. Unfortunately those prayers have been answered in one shot 2013. There is enough snow to last all season and we have had another fall on top of 3 metres plus. Looks like the rest of this week will provide some excellent skiing and riding for this 1st week of the NZ school holidays.

Mt Hutt 7/07/13

Sunday, July 07, 2013

Mt Hutt has been buffeted and blown for the last 9 days and it seems that it will finally blow itself out tonight. Not so good for our Queensland visitors over the last week but better news for the NSW holidays. As well as blowing it has been snowing so the conditions look good for this coming week with a little more snow forecast on Wednesday. If you are staying in Methven make sure you take advantage of the free around town bus in the evenings. Check out all the bars and restaurants or visit Big Al's. We are helping to sponsor this bus so hop on for your magical mystery tour.

Big Snow 20/21st June

Sunday, June 23, 2013

Having the biggest single snowfall in many years Mt Hutt has received 2.8 metres of snow giving an early season base of 3.2 metres. Clearing the mountain for an opening on Monday is a big job. Several control avalanches have been started by the patrol bombings. Snowmaking took a bit of a hit but with 3.2 metres they were a bit redundant anyway. The bottom of the triple also took some snow a great video on the Mt Hutt Facebook page on the 21st shows the patrol bombing this slide. Those guys just love it. Gunpowder bombs avalanches - what more could a boy want !!

Mt Hutt 2013

Saturday, June 15, 2013

Mt Hutts season 2013 opens today 15th June. It was a bit of a grey day but there was plenty of snow and everyone had a good day. Ex staff member and NZ ski coach Nils Coberger dropped in. His old bad habits have not gone away. He was immediately into the petty cash tin for his coffee !! The team had a busy day renting skis and snowboards chatting to customers and friends heading up for their first day skiing or snowboarding. Lots of local Methven people bringing in the kids to measure up for the season. Some snow is in the forcast so things are looking good for the start of the season.

Big Als Moves into 21st Century

Monday, June 10, 2013

Big Al's is moving into the 21st century in 2013 - a bit late ! Rental check-in has moved to IPads from paper. The system is very new and Big Al's is one of the first users. This is usually a bad idea with new software but the team is always ready for new challenges ! The developer is an ex-pat Argentinian who may have to repatriate back home if things don't work out. If you see the team around Methven without hair you will know we have had a few "rip the hair out" moments. That is except for Big Al who has no hair already.
